In the Works

This event marked the public introduction of Prism Art Space and its nine resident artists: Ashley Tattersall-Diaz, Chaitra Bangalore, Heather Hogan, Iso Marcus, Jazel Muñoz, Jillian Bruschera, Julie Bernadeth Crumb, Justina Martino, and Michael LaHood — visionary, interdisciplinary artists who were committed to connection, collaboration, and cultural dialogue.

Founded by artist Michael LaHood, Prism Art Space was created in response to Sacramento’s critical need for independent, inclusive, and accessible creative venues. The space championed experimentation, skill-sharing, and artistic support among its resident artists and the broader community.

The opening reception featured work spanning printmaking, installation, social practice, painting, drawing, photography, performance, ceramics, sound, digital media, and sculpture. Participatory elements invited guests to engage directly with artists and their ideas. The show highlighted works in process, as well as ongoing themes of the studio artists: play, care, connection, societal roles, cultural memory, nature, death, and identity.

Prism Art Space envisioned Sacramento as a vibrant arts city where creativity was central to civic identity and where artists had the resources and freedom to create projects that might otherwise have remained unrealized.

We invited the public to be part of this debut event as we laid the groundwork for a dynamic, artist-led community resource and exhibition space that was open, inclusive, and collaborative.
